Photos can make a major difference in how potential customers perceive your electrical business when they find you on Google Maps.
Someone searching for an electrician may know very little about the companies appearing in the results. They may see a business name, reviews, service information, and a few photos before deciding which company deserves a closer look.
The right photos can immediately make your business look established, professional, local, and trustworthy.
For electricians, photos also provide something particularly valuable: proof that you’re a real electrical company doing real work in the community.
Your Google Business Profile shouldn’t look like it was assembled from generic stock photos of electrical outlets and people holding tools. It should visually represent your actual company.
Use Photos of Your Actual Electrical Work
Completed projects should make up an important part of your photo collection.
Electrical work isn’t always as visually dramatic as landscaping, roofing, painting, or remodeling, but there are still plenty of opportunities to photograph your work.
Consider taking photos of:
Electrical panel installations
Electrical panel upgrades
EV charger installations
Generator installations
Recessed lighting projects
Outdoor lighting
Commercial lighting
New wiring installations
Electrical equipment
Transfer switches
Smart-home installations
Completed electrical upgrades
The goal isn’t simply to show electrical equipment.
You’re showing potential customers that your company regularly performs the types of projects they’re considering.
For example, imagine someone searches for an electrician to install a Level 2 EV charger.
They find your Google Business Profile and see several photos of EV chargers your company has installed in local garages.
That creates immediate relevance.
The customer doesn’t have to wonder whether you perform EV charger installations. They can see examples of the work.
Take Before-and-After Photos
Before-and-after photos can be particularly effective for certain electrical projects.
An electrical panel upgrade is a good example.
Take a clear photo of the old electrical panel before beginning the project. Then photograph the new panel after installation is complete.
The difference can be dramatic.
Before-and-after photos can also work well for:
Lighting upgrades
Panel replacements
Commercial lighting projects
Generator installations
Electrical equipment upgrades
Outdoor lighting
Old wiring replacement
These images demonstrate the result of your work without requiring a long explanation.
When possible, take the before and after photos from approximately the same angle. This makes the improvement easier to see.
You don’t need professional photography equipment. A modern smartphone can produce excellent images when the area is well lit and the camera lens is clean.
Show Your Electricians at Work
Photos of your electricians performing real work can make your profile much more personal.
Potential customers aren’t just hiring a company. They’re allowing someone into their home or business.
Showing your team helps customers see the people behind the business.
Useful photos might show an electrician:
Installing an electrical panel
Working on a lighting system
Installing an EV charger
Inspecting electrical equipment
Working on a commercial project
Installing a generator
Troubleshooting an electrical system
Performing an electrical inspection
Make sure the work area looks reasonably organized and that appropriate safety practices are being followed.
These photos aren’t staged advertisements. They should simply show your company doing the work customers hire you to perform.
Photograph Your Trucks and Service Vehicles
Your company vehicles can be excellent Google Business Profile photos, especially when they’re professionally branded.
A truck or van displaying your company name and logo reinforces that you’re an established local electrical business.
Take clear photos of your vehicles in good lighting.
You might photograph:
A service van parked at your business
Several company vehicles together
A truck at a job site
An electrician standing beside a branded vehicle
Your company fleet
These images help connect the business customers see online with the vehicles they may already recognize around the community.
If your trucks are clean, professionally lettered, and easily identifiable, they’re part of your brand. Use them.
Show Your Team
Team photos are another way to build familiarity and trust.
You might include a group photo of your electricians, office staff, or the entire company.
Individual employee photos can also work well.
This is especially useful for smaller electrical companies where customers may interact directly with the owner.
For example, an owner-operated electrical company could include a photo of the owner beside the company vehicle or working on a project.
The objective isn’t to make your Google Business Profile look like a corporate brochure.
It’s to help potential customers see that there are real people behind the company.
Photograph Your Business Location
If customers visit your physical location, include clear exterior and interior photos.
Exterior photos can help customers recognize the building when they arrive.
Show:
The front of the building
Your business sign
The entrance
Parking area
Reception area
Office or showroom
If your electrical company operates from a location that customers don’t visit, job-site, vehicle, team, and project photos will usually be more valuable.
Don’t manufacture the appearance of a storefront if your business doesn’t actually operate one for customers.
Your photos should accurately represent your company.
Use Photos to Showcase Specialty Services
Think back to the services you identified in Lesson 2.
Which services are particularly valuable to your business?
Those services deserve extra photographic attention.
If EV charger installation is an important growth area, photograph your EV charger projects.
If you specialize in standby generators, regularly photograph generator installations.
If your company performs major electrical panel upgrades, document those projects.
If commercial lighting is a profitable service, photograph completed commercial installations.
This creates consistency throughout your profile.
Your categories identify your type of business.
Your service list explains what you offer.
Your description highlights your most important work.
Your photos provide visual evidence.
Together, these elements tell a much stronger story than any one element could provide by itself.
Avoid Relying on Stock Photos
Stock photography is easy to recognize.
You’ve probably seen the typical image: a perfectly clean person wearing a spotless tool belt, holding a screwdriver next to an electrical panel while smiling directly at the camera.
It may look polished, but it doesn’t tell customers anything about your company.
A slightly imperfect smartphone photo of one of your electricians installing a real electrical panel is usually more valuable because it’s authentic.
Your photos should answer an important question:
Is this a real local electrical company that actually performs this work?
Real photos help answer that question.
Pay Attention to Photo Quality
Authentic doesn’t mean careless.
You don’t need professional photography, but your photos should still be clear and presentable.
Before taking a photo:
Clean your phone’s camera lens.
Make sure there’s enough light.
Remove unnecessary clutter when possible.
Hold the phone steady.
Check what’s visible in the background.
Take several versions and choose the best one.
Avoid uploading blurry, extremely dark, or poorly framed images.
Also pay attention to anything that shouldn’t appear publicly.
Job-site photos can accidentally reveal customer names, addresses, paperwork, license plates, security information, computer screens, or other private details.
Review each image before uploading it.
Don’t Overedit Your Photos
Your electrical work should look real.
Basic adjustments to brightness or cropping are fine, but avoid excessive filters or editing that makes the image look unnatural.
You’re not trying to create magazine photography.
You’re documenting your business.
Potential customers should be able to look at your photos and get a realistic idea of your company, employees, equipment, and work.
Authenticity is more important than perfection.
Keep Adding Photos Over Time
Don’t upload ten photos when you create your profile and then forget about photos for the next three years.
Electrical companies constantly generate opportunities for new images.
A new panel installation is an opportunity.
A generator project is an opportunity.
A commercial lighting installation is an opportunity.
A new company truck is an opportunity.
A particularly clean EV charger installation is an opportunity.
Make taking photos part of your normal workflow.
You don’t need to upload photos every day. The goal is to build a growing collection of images that reflects the work your company is currently doing.
Over time, your profile might contain dozens of authentic photos covering different services.
That creates a much stronger visual presence than a profile containing a logo, one picture of a truck, and several old photos.
Create a Simple Photo Routine
The easiest way to maintain your photo collection is to make photography part of completing a job.
When appropriate, take two or three useful photos before leaving the site.
You could establish a simple routine:
Take a before photo when there’s something worth documenting.
Take one or two photos while the work is being performed.
Take several photos of the completed project.
Choose the strongest images later.
This doesn’t need to add much time to a job.
If multiple electricians work for your company, encourage them to take photos of particularly good projects and send them to the person responsible for maintaining the Google Business Profile.
Soon you’ll have a steady supply of authentic images.
Use Photos to Reinforce the Business You Want to Build
Your photo collection doesn’t need to represent every type of electrical job equally.
It can emphasize the work you want more of.
If you’re trying to grow EV charger installations, show more EV charger projects.
If generator installation is a major service, build a collection of generator photos.
If electrical panel replacements are especially profitable, document your best panel projects.
Think of your photos as a visual portfolio.
A potential customer looking through them should quickly understand the type of electrical company you operate and the kinds of projects you regularly complete.
For electricians, authentic photos can turn an ordinary Google Business Profile into something much more convincing.
Show your electricians.
Show your vehicles.
Show your equipment.
Show your projects.
Most importantly, show the actual work your company performs.
In the next lesson, we’ll bring everything together by looking at the best local keywords for electricians and how to identify the search phrases customers are most likely to use when they need electrical services in your area.
