Your Google Business Profile categories tell Google what type of business you operate. Your services give you an opportunity to explain exactly what customers can hire you to do.
For pest control companies, this is especially important.
A homeowner usually isn’t searching for pest control just because they want a pest control company. They’re searching because they have a specific problem.
They have ants in the kitchen.
They heard scratching in the attic.
They discovered termites.
They found a wasp nest next to the house.
They woke up with suspicious bites and think they may have bed bugs.
Your Google Business Profile services can help connect your business with these specific customer needs.
Since you’ve already completed Get Found on Google Maps – Invisible No More, you know the fundamentals of optimizing your profile. In this lesson, we’re going to focus specifically on choosing services that accurately represent a pest control business.
Start With the Services That Make You Money
Don’t treat the services section like a directory where your goal is to list every pest you’ve ever encountered.
Start with the services that are actually important to your business.
Ask yourself:
Which services generate the most calls?
Which services produce the most revenue?
Which services do we actively want more customers for?
Which pest problems are common in our service area?
Which services are prominently featured on our website?
The answers will help you determine which services deserve the most attention.
For a general pest control company, some of your most important services might include:
- Residential pest control
- Commercial pest control
- Ant control
- Bed bug treatment
- Cockroach control
- Flea control
- Mosquito control
- Rodent control
- Spider control
- Termite control
- Tick control
- Wasp and hornet removal
Your exact list should reflect what your company actually provides.
Use the Names Customers Understand
Pest control professionals sometimes use terminology that customers don’t commonly use.
Your Google Business Profile isn’t the place to show customers how much industry vocabulary you know.
Use clear service names.
For example, a homeowner is much more likely to understand:
Mouse control
than a technical phrase describing a rodent management program.
Likewise, customers immediately understand:
Ant control
Bed bug treatment
Termite inspection
Wasp nest removal
The easier your services are to understand, the more useful your profile becomes.
You can still explain sophisticated treatment methods and pest management strategies on your website.
The service name itself should usually be simple.
Separate Major Pest Control Services
Don’t lump everything together under a single service called “Pest Control.”
That’s accurate, but it doesn’t tell customers very much.
If you provide treatment for several common pests, create individual services when appropriate.
For example:
Ant Control
Describe the types of ant problems you commonly handle and whether treatment is available for indoor and outdoor infestations.
Cockroach Control
Explain that you provide treatment for cockroach infestations in homes or businesses if applicable.
Spider Control
Mention interior and exterior spider treatments when those are services you provide.
Flea Control
Explain your treatment options for flea infestations in residential properties.
This approach gives customers a much clearer understanding of your capabilities.
It also gives Google additional information about the specific services associated with your business.
Make Rodent Control Easy To Find
Rodent problems often create urgency.
A customer who sees a mouse running across the kitchen isn’t casually researching pest control companies for something to do next month.
They want the problem handled.
If you provide rodent services, make them easy to identify on your profile.
Depending on what your company offers, these might include:
- Mouse control
- Rat control
- Rodent control
- Rodent exclusion
- Rodent inspections
Be accurate about what you provide.
For example, some companies provide trapping and population control but don’t perform structural exclusion work. Others provide complete rodent exclusion services that involve identifying and sealing entry points.
Don’t advertise exclusion unless you actually provide it.
Give Termite Services Their Own Attention
Termite control can be a major source of business for pest control companies, and customers often search specifically for termite-related services.
If your company provides them, consider adding individual services such as:
- Termite control
- Termite inspection
- Termite treatment
- Termite prevention
Only add services that genuinely reflect your offerings.
For example, don’t list termite inspections if you don’t provide them independently or as part of your termite program.
You may also provide specialized treatment methods. Those can sometimes be mentioned in the service descriptions, particularly when customers in your market recognize and search for them.
The objective isn’t to create the longest list.
It’s to make your important termite services immediately understandable.
Don’t Forget Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are another pest problem customers frequently search for by name.
If you provide bed bug services, don’t hide them inside a generic pest control listing.
Create a clear service such as:
Bed Bug Treatment
You can then use the description to briefly explain the service.
If you offer different treatment methods, inspections, or follow-up programs, those details can be mentioned when appropriate.
However, don’t turn the service description into a sales page.
Your website can provide the detailed explanation.
The Google Business Profile service should give potential customers enough information to understand that you can solve their problem.
Include Seasonal Pest Services
Pest activity changes throughout the year.
Depending on where your business operates, mosquitoes, ticks, wasps, hornets, fleas, or other pests may become much more active during particular seasons.
If you actively provide these services, include them on your profile year-round rather than waiting until the season begins.
Possible services include:
- Mosquito control
- Tick control
- Wasp control
- Hornet removal
- Stinging insect control
This helps create a more complete description of your business.
You can then use other parts of your marketing strategy to emphasize seasonal services when demand increases.
Residential and Commercial Pest Control
If you serve both homeowners and businesses, consider whether it makes sense to identify these as separate services.
For example:
Residential Pest Control
This could describe your general pest management services for houses, apartments, condominiums, and other residential properties.
Commercial Pest Control
This could explain the types of businesses or commercial properties you serve.
Commercial pest control can be particularly important if your company wants more business accounts.
Restaurants, warehouses, offices, property management companies, retail locations, and other businesses can have very different pest management needs from homeowners.
If commercial pest control is a significant part of your business, don’t make customers guess whether you provide it.
Wildlife Removal Should Only Be Added When Appropriate
Some pest control companies also provide wildlife removal.
If your company legitimately offers these services, you might include services for the types of wildlife you handle.
These could include services such as:
- Bat removal
- Raccoon removal
- Squirrel removal
- Wildlife removal
- Wildlife exclusion
But this is an area where accuracy is especially important.
Don’t list wildlife services simply because they seem related to pest control.
If you don’t have the equipment, licensing, experience, or legal authority required to perform a particular service in your area, it shouldn’t be on your profile.
Write Useful Service Descriptions
When Google gives you the opportunity to add a description to a service, use it.
You don’t need a huge paragraph.
A few clear sentences can explain what the service includes and who it’s intended for.
For example, instead of simply listing:
Rodent Control
you could describe it along these lines:
Professional rodent control for homes and businesses experiencing problems with mice or rats. Service may include inspection, treatment, trapping, and recommendations for reducing potential entry points, depending on the property and infestation.
Notice what this description doesn’t do.
It doesn’t repeat “rodent control” ten times.
It doesn’t stuff city names into every sentence.
It doesn’t make unrealistic promises.
It simply helps the customer understand the service.
Don’t Turn Your Services Into a Keyword Dump
Your services should naturally include phrases customers search for because those phrases describe what you do.
That’s very different from stuffing keywords into the section.
A service called:
Ant Control
makes sense.
Something like:
Best Affordable Ant Control Exterminator Near Me in Springfield
doesn’t.
Write for real customers.
Google already knows the location of your business and the areas you’re eligible to serve. You don’t need to force location keywords into every service name.
We’ll cover local keywords specifically in Lesson 5.
Keep Your Profile and Website Consistent
Your most important Google Business Profile services should also be represented on your website.
If your profile lists termite treatment, bed bug control, rodent control, mosquito control, and commercial pest control, customers should be able to find information about those services after visiting your website.
This creates a consistent experience.
It also prevents the common problem of a business claiming to offer a service on its Google Business Profile but providing no useful information about that service anywhere else.
Your profile and website should support each other.
Review Your Services Regularly
Pest control businesses change.
You may add a new treatment program, stop providing a particular service, expand into commercial pest management, or begin offering a specialized service.
Review your Google Business Profile services periodically and make sure they’re still accurate.
Remove services you no longer provide.
Add important new services.
Update descriptions when your offerings change.
You don’t need to constantly rewrite the section. A periodic review is usually enough.
Build Your Service List Around Real Customer Problems
The best pest control service list isn’t necessarily the longest one.
It’s the one that accurately represents the problems your company solves.
Start with your major services, then break out important pest-specific offerings such as ant control, rodent control, termite treatment, bed bug treatment, mosquito control, and other services that are genuinely part of your business.
Use simple names that customers understand.
Add concise descriptions when appropriate.
Most importantly, make sure every service you list is something your company actually wants customers to call about.
Once you’ve clearly established what you do, the next step is explaining your business as a whole.
That’s what we’ll tackle in Lesson 3, Creating an Effective Google Business Profile Description For Pest Control Services.
