Your Google Business Profile description gives you an opportunity to explain exactly what your pest control company does, who you serve, and what makes your business different.

Your categories establish the type of business you operate, while your services identify the specific pest problems you handle. Your business description brings those pieces together and gives potential customers a quick overview of your company.

For pest control businesses, a strong description can be particularly valuable because customers often want to know more than whether you simply provide pest control.

They want to know what pests you handle.

They want to know whether you serve residential or commercial properties.

They may want to know whether you provide termite treatments, rodent control, bed bug treatments, mosquito control, or other specialized services.

Since you’ve already completed Get Found on Google Maps – Invisible No More, you understand the basic purpose of your Google Business Profile. In this lesson, we’ll concentrate specifically on writing a description that works for a pest control business.

Start With What Your Company Does

Your opening sentence should make it immediately clear that you’re a pest control company and explain the primary market you serve.

Don’t make potential customers work to figure this out.

For example, you might begin with something similar to:

ABC Pest Control provides residential and commercial pest control services for homeowners and businesses throughout the Springfield area.

That single sentence establishes several important facts.

It identifies the business.

It explains the service.

It identifies the types of customers served.

It establishes the general service area.

There’s no need for an elaborate introduction.

Clarity is more important.

Mention Your Most Important Pest Control Services

After introducing your business, explain the major services you provide.

You don’t need to list every pest you’ve ever treated.

Focus on the services that are most important to your company and most useful to potential customers.

For a general pest control business, these might include:

  • Ant control
  • Bed bug treatment
  • Cockroach control
  • Flea control
  • Mosquito control
  • Rodent control
  • Spider control
  • Termite control
  • Tick control
  • Wasp and hornet control

If you provide only some of these services, mention only those services.

If you specialize in a particular area, give that specialty more attention.

For example, a company that generates a large percentage of its business from termite services might specifically mention termite inspections, termite treatments, and termite prevention.

A company specializing in rodents might emphasize mouse control, rat control, and rodent exclusion.

Your description should represent your actual business rather than a generic pest control company.

Include Residential and Commercial Pest Control When Appropriate

If you serve both residential and commercial customers, say so.

Potential commercial customers shouldn’t have to search through your website to determine whether you work with businesses.

Likewise, homeowners should immediately understand that residential pest control is available.

You could mention that your company provides pest management for homes, offices, restaurants, retail properties, warehouses, rental properties, or other commercial facilities when those markets are genuinely part of your business.

However, don’t turn the description into a giant list of property types.

Focus on the customers you’re actively trying to attract.

If 95 percent of your business comes from homeowners and you occasionally service a small office, positioning yourself as a major commercial pest management provider could create the wrong impression.

Your description should accurately reflect the business you operate today.

Explain What Makes Your Pest Control Company Different

Many pest control companies offer similar services.

If several companies in your area all provide ant control, termite treatments, rodent control, and general pest management, why should a customer consider yours?

Your business description can briefly communicate genuine differences.

These might include:

  • Locally owned and operated
  • Family-owned business
  • Years of pest control experience
  • Residential and commercial service
  • Same-day or prompt service when genuinely offered
  • Integrated pest management approaches
  • Environmentally conscious treatment options
  • Specialized termite expertise
  • Wildlife control capabilities
  • Ongoing pest prevention programs

The key word is genuine.

Don’t fill your description with vague claims such as “best pest control company” or “number one exterminator.”

Specific facts are more useful.

If your company has served the community for 25 years, say that.

If you’re a locally owned company, mention it.

If your technicians have specialized experience with termites or rodents, explain that.

Real information gives customers a reason to understand what makes your company different.

Use Local Information Naturally

Your business description is also an appropriate place to establish the geographic area your company serves.

For example:

Serving Springfield and surrounding communities…

or:

Providing pest control services throughout Springfield, Oakville, and nearby areas…

This gives customers useful information while naturally providing geographic context.

What you don’t want to do is cram a long list of cities into the description simply because you’re trying to rank for every location.

A description like this quickly becomes awkward:

We provide pest control in Springfield, Oakville, Greenville, Riverside, Fairview, Franklin, Madison, Georgetown, Clinton, Salem, and surrounding areas.

That’s not particularly helpful to the customer.

Your Google Business Profile already provides other ways to establish where you operate.

Use your description to mention your primary market or a few important areas naturally.

We’ll discuss local keyword strategy in much greater detail in Lesson 5.

Write For Customers First

It’s tempting to treat your Google Business Profile description as an SEO field.

That usually leads to bad writing.

Imagine a potential customer reading your description while comparing three pest control companies on their phone.

What information would help that person decide whether your company is worth contacting?

That’s what belongs in your description.

Write naturally.

Instead of something like:

ABC Pest Control is the best pest control company for pest control Springfield residents trust when searching for pest control near me.

Write something useful:

ABC Pest Control provides residential and commercial pest control services throughout Springfield, including treatments for ants, cockroaches, spiders, rodents, termites, bed bugs, and other common pests.

The second version tells customers what they actually need to know.

It also naturally includes relevant language without sounding like it was written for a search engine.

Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Using relevant words in your description is perfectly reasonable.

You’re a pest control business, so phrases such as “pest control,” “termite treatment,” and “rodent control” will naturally appear.

The problem occurs when those phrases are repeated unnecessarily.

Don’t try to squeeze “pest control near me,” “exterminator near me,” “best pest control company,” and every city you serve into the description.

Customers can recognize keyword stuffing.

It makes the business look less professional, and it doesn’t make the description more useful.

Use keywords because they’re necessary to explain your business, not because you’re trying to reach a certain number of repetitions.

Don’t Make Claims You Can’t Support

Pest control customers want confidence that the company they hire can solve their problem.

That doesn’t mean you should make guarantees or exaggerated claims.

Be careful with statements such as:

“Guaranteed to eliminate every pest.”

“100 percent permanent pest removal.”

“Best exterminator in the city.”

“Number one pest control company.”

Claims like these can create unrealistic expectations.

Pest management can depend on the pest, severity of the infestation, property conditions, treatment method, customer cooperation, and many other factors.

Focus on what your company provides rather than making promises that may be difficult to support.

Keep Your Description Easy To Read

Your Google Business Profile description doesn’t need to tell the entire history of your company.

Customers can visit your website if they want more detailed information.

Your profile description should provide a quick overview.

A simple structure works well:

Start by identifying your company and primary service.

Mention your most important pest control services.

Explain whether you serve residential, commercial, or both types of customers.

Mention one or two genuine characteristics that distinguish your business.

Finish with your primary service area or another useful piece of information.

That’s enough to create a strong description.

Example Pest Control Business Description

Here’s an example of how these ideas can come together:

ABC Pest Control provides residential and commercial pest control services throughout Springfield and surrounding communities. Our pest management services include treatments for ants, cockroaches, spiders, rodents, termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes, ticks, wasps, and other common pests. We also provide termite inspections, rodent control, and ongoing pest prevention programs for homeowners and businesses. As a locally owned company, we focus on dependable service, clear communication, and practical pest management solutions based on each property’s needs.

Notice that the description isn’t complicated.

It tells customers what the company does, identifies important services, establishes the market served, and provides a little information about the company.

You can use that general structure as inspiration, but don’t simply copy it.

Your description should sound like your business.

Review Your Description As Your Business Changes

Your business description isn’t something you need to rewrite constantly.

However, it should remain accurate.

If you begin offering termite treatments, add commercial pest control, expand into wildlife removal, or stop providing a particular service, review your description.

Make sure it still reflects what your company actually does.

You should also review it if your primary service area changes or your company develops a new specialty.

An outdated description can send potential customers in the wrong direction.

Create a Description That Matches the Rest of Your Profile

By this point, three important parts of your Google Business Profile should begin supporting each other.

Your categories tell Google what type of business you operate.

Your services explain the specific pest problems you solve.

Your business description gives customers a clear overview of the company behind those services.

These elements shouldn’t contradict each other.

If your profile says you’re a general pest control company specializing in termite and rodent services, your categories, services, description, and website should reinforce that message.

The result is a Google Business Profile that clearly communicates what your pest control company does and the customers you’re trying to serve.

Now that we’ve covered the words customers see on your profile, it’s time to focus on something much more visual.

In Lesson 4, we’ll cover Using the Right Pest Control Photos For Your Google Business Profile.
