Once you’ve selected the right categories for your plumbing business, the next step is making sure Google clearly understands the specific services you provide.

Your Google Business Profile Services section gives you an opportunity to tell both Google and potential customers exactly what your plumbing company does.

This is especially important for plumbers because customers rarely search for only “plumber.”

They search for the problem they need solved.

Someone with water pouring from a broken pipe might search for “emergency plumbing repair.” A homeowner with a clogged kitchen sink may search for “drain cleaning.” Someone whose shower suddenly has cold water might search for “water heater repair.”

Your Services section should reflect the actual work your customers are searching for.

Why Plumbing Services Matter

Think of your primary Google Business Profile category as the broad description of your company.

Your category says:

We’re plumbers.

Your services explain:

Here’s what we can fix, install, replace, and maintain.

This distinction is important.

You don’t need to find a Google Business Profile category for every type of plumbing work you perform. Instead, use your categories to define the business and your Services section to describe the individual jobs customers can hire you to perform.

A detailed and accurate service list also makes your profile more useful to potential customers.

If someone finds your company after searching for a plumber, they may want to know immediately whether you repair water heaters, unclog drains, replace toilets, or handle emergency plumbing problems.

Your Services section helps answer those questions.

Start With Your Most Important Services

Don’t begin by trying to create the longest list possible.

Start with the plumbing services that generate the majority of your calls and revenue.

For a typical residential plumbing company, these might include:

Emergency Plumbing

If you genuinely provide emergency or urgent plumbing services, this is an important service to include.

Drain Cleaning

Drain cleaning can cover clogged sinks, showers, tubs, floor drains, and other drainage problems.

Water Heater Repair

Homeowners frequently search specifically for water heater repair rather than searching for a general plumber.

Water Heater Installation

Keep installation separate from repair if you provide both services. Customers searching for a replacement water heater have a different need from customers hoping to repair their existing unit.

Pipe Repair

This can cover leaking, damaged, cracked, or broken plumbing pipes.

Leak Repair

Leaks are among the most common reasons homeowners contact plumbers. This service can include visible leaks around fixtures as well as other plumbing leaks your company handles.

Toilet Repair

Running toilets, clogged toilets, leaking toilets, and toilets that won’t flush properly are common plumbing problems.

Toilet Installation

If your company replaces and installs toilets, list this separately from toilet repair.

Faucet Repair

Customers frequently need help with dripping, leaking, loose, or malfunctioning faucets.

Faucet Installation

This can cover replacement faucets and new fixture installations.

Garbage Disposal Repair

If your plumbing company services garbage disposals, include it.

Garbage Disposal Installation

Again, installation can be separated from repair because the customer intent is different.

These are only starting points. Your service list should reflect the work your particular plumbing company actually performs.

Add Specialized Plumbing Services

Once your core services are covered, consider the more specialized work your company provides.

Depending on the business, this could include:

Sewer line repair

Sewer line replacement

Sewer cleaning

Sewer camera inspections

Hydro jetting

Tankless water heater installation

Tankless water heater repair

Sump pump repair

Sump pump installation

Water filtration systems

Water softener installation

Gas line services

Repiping

Frozen pipe repair

Shower installation

Sink installation

Kitchen plumbing

Bathroom plumbing

Commercial plumbing

Backflow testing or repair

The exact list will vary considerably from one plumbing company to another.

A company specializing in older homes may perform a lot of repiping. Another company may specialize in drain and sewer work. Another may generate much of its revenue from water heaters.

Your profile should represent your business, not a generic plumbing company.

Think Like a Customer

One of the best ways to build your service list is to stop thinking like a plumber for a moment.

Think like a homeowner.

Plumbing professionals naturally use industry terminology because they understand the trade. Customers often describe the same service differently.

For example, a plumber might think in terms of fixture replacement.

A homeowner may simply search:

replace bathroom faucet

install kitchen sink

new toilet installation

shower faucet replacement

Whenever possible, use clear service names that ordinary customers will understand.

This doesn’t mean stuffing every possible search phrase into your profile.

It means using customer-friendly language.

If customers understand your service names immediately, Google is also more likely to have clear context about what those services represent.

Use Service Descriptions Wisely

When Google provides the ability to add descriptions to services, use that space to explain the service rather than repeating the service name several different ways.

For example, suppose your service is:

Water Heater Repair

A useful description might explain that your company diagnoses and repairs common water heater problems, including lack of hot water, leaking tanks, unusual noises, and other performance issues.

That tells the customer something useful.

Compare that with a description filled with phrases such as:

best water heater repair, local water heater repair, water heater repair near me, affordable water heater repair

That sounds unnatural and provides very little useful information.

Write for customers first.

Your objective is to clearly describe what the company does.

Don’t Add Services You Don’t Actually Offer

It can be tempting to add every plumbing service imaginable because you want your business to appear for more searches.

Don’t.

If you don’t provide septic tank services, don’t add septic services.

If you don’t work on gas lines, don’t add gas line repair.

If you don’t provide 24-hour emergency service, don’t imply that you do.

Your Google Business Profile should accurately represent the business customers will encounter when they call you.

Getting visibility for a service you don’t provide doesn’t help your business.

In fact, it can generate unwanted phone calls, frustrate potential customers, and waste your staff’s time.

Relevant traffic is far more valuable than simply getting more traffic.

Match Your Services With Your Website

The strongest services on your Google Business Profile should also be clearly represented on your website.

Suppose your most profitable services are:

Drain cleaning

Water heater repair or replacement

Emergency plumbing

Sewer line repair

Installing sump pumps

Those services shouldn’t exist only inside your Google Business Profile.

Ideally, your website should have useful content explaining each major service.

For particularly important services, dedicated service pages can make sense.

For example:

Water Heater Repair in Your City

Drain Cleaning in Your City

Emergency Plumbing in Your City

Sewer Line Repair in Your City

This creates consistency across your online presence.

Your Google Business Profile says you provide the service.

Your website provides additional information confirming that you provide it.

And your customers can learn more about the service before calling.

Prioritize Profitable Services

Not every plumbing service has the same value to your company.

Consider which jobs you actually want more of.

Perhaps water heater replacement is particularly profitable.

Maybe sewer line work generates larger jobs.

Perhaps your company specializes in drain cleaning and has equipment competitors don’t have.

Those services deserve particular attention.

Your Google Business Profile shouldn’t merely describe everything you’ve ever done.

It should accurately represent the work your company does while emphasizing the services that matter most to the business.

Putting Lesson 2 Into Action

Open your Google Business Profile and review your current Services section.

Start by identifying your 10 to 15 most important plumbing services.

Make sure each major service your company provides is represented clearly and accurately.

Then look for gaps.

Ask yourself:

What plumbing problems generate the most phone calls?

Which services generate the most revenue?

Which services do we want more customers for?

What terminology do customers actually use when asking for these services?

Which important services are already supported by pages on our website?

Add relevant services that are missing and remove services that don’t accurately represent your company.

Finally, don’t treat this as something you complete once and forget.

As your plumbing business changes, your services may change too. New equipment, new employees, new specialties, or changes in demand can all affect which services deserve the most attention.

Your categories tell Google you’re a plumber.

Your Services section tells Google and your customers exactly what kind of plumbing work they can hire you to do.

Getting that information right gives you a stronger foundation for attracting the searches that are most valuable to your plumbing business.
